Culture Fest at Lehigh Valley College Continues Sept. 21 With Percussion-Based "Celebration of Music"

(Center Valley, Sept. 19) – The third annual Culture Fest, a celebration of campus diversity at Lehigh Valley College, continues Thurs., Sept. 21 with “A Celebration of Music.”

A multi-cultural, interactive music presentation entitled “Livin' in the Rhythm,” led by guest musician Mark Seaman, showcases an array of drums and percussion instruments. Members of the school's Students in Free Enterprise group will assist Seaman. Emphasizing the human community of sound and rhythm, this presentation will be held in the college atrium at 9:45 a.m.

At 12:30 p.m., student performances of music, song, dance, and theatrical arts will present a spectrum of international customs and culture. 

On Fri., Sept. 22, students at the school will examine differences in culture and personality through diversity awareness training. Guest speakers will discuss topics related to understanding the differences among us in society and the workplace. 

Featured speakers will deliver their talks in Room 106 at the college. Freda Rafes, outreach educator for the Crime Victims Council of the Lehigh Valley , will speak from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. on “The LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) Community and Sexual Assault.” Ann Urrutia, caseworker at Allentown 's Sixth Street Shelter, will address “Homelessness and Its Stereotypes” from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

"This day of education and enlightenment is the culmination of a week-long experience in diversity," said Lehigh Valley College 's Terry Alfano. "Our goal is that all members of the student body choose to embrace the diversity that abounds on our campus and in our communities."
